Should I get an IV?
If your ferritin is <100 µg/L and you have symptoms, you should consider an IV.
Is it safe? What are the side effects?
Very safe. Monoferric (the IV formulation we use) has been around since 2009. With a pristine safety record. We've overseen thousands (and trained 150+ HPCs) on it. Serious events are rare (5-in-a-million), and otherwise minimal, limited to mild flushing (5%) +/- a mild headache and flu-like symptoms for a day or two afterwards. Nothing some extra water and Tylenol can't fix.
How soon will it work?
2-4 weeks for most, 2-3 months for some.
How long will it last?
2-5 years for most.
How much do I need?
Generally, 500mg (250 hamburgers) to 1,000mg (500 hamburgers), depending on your ferritin. Send us a copy of your latest labs, less than 3mo old, and we can discuss.
How much does it cost?
As low as $0 (if your benefits cover it), or as high as ~$850 for the maximum dose to correct a bottomed-out ferritin.
Any special instructions?
Not really! It's 90 mins in and out. If you're needle-phobic, have something to eat or drink beforehand, but you there's no way for you to mess things up. We've got everything covered!
