Hair loss caused by iron deficiency
It may seem superficial, but hair loss is one of the more distressing problems a person can face with their health. A massive global industry is built around it.
It is anything but trivial.
Does low ferritin levels lead to hair loss?
People have been debating for years whether low serum ferritin levels are linked to hair loss. There’s still some disagreement about the exact ferritin level that should be considered a deficiency that could lead to hair loss.
But it’s definitely related.
One particular experiment tried to shed some light on this puzzle and revealed a ferritin value of 70 or higher is needed to prevent hair loss.
In fact, 93% of patients who had hair loss had ferritin lower than 70.
“Seven-O and go” is our patient standard. Serum ferritin levels higher than this are required for normal hair cycles.
If you’re suffering from hair loss, ask yourself: has your ferritin been tested? And was it more than 70?

Let it grow
Hair spends months in dormant cycles. After you replete your iron, whether orally or by infusion, be sure to give it some time (3-6 months) to really tell if that was the key to your new hair growth.
“You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just grew it.”
